ethıcal production

Map with the key destinations

Ethical production is the cornerstone of the TerraMavi philosophy. From harvesting to arriving on your doorstep, each step of our eco-friendly products’ journey is transparent.

We only harvest our base plants from places where it is redundant and work hand-in-hand with small local farms and local artisans. Our meticulous search for the right place of harvesting ended up working with different farmers from all over the world like farmers from Indonesia, Ukraine, and South-East Asia. We never use chemicals in any stage of the process and each part of the plant is used to create our plastic-free alternatives.

We constantly strive to refine our recyclable products by introducing new designs, whilst positively impacting and inspiring the local community by creating jobs with fair pay.

Discover the step-by-step process of how each of the products is created.

our bamboo products

A miracle of nature, bamboo is the earth’s most sustainable plant absorbing 30% more oxygen into the atmosphere and growing up to an incredible three feet in 24 hours. Naturally antibacterial and resistant mildew and mold, bamboo is the perfect material for our awesome straws, toothbrushes and vanity kits.

Once the bamboo is first harvested it is left to dry in the sun before being cut to size and fashioned into small, smooth pieces. After, our straws are sanded and filed to perfection and given a final clean using pressurized water. Fully biodegradable, your bamboo straw can be composted once it’s used been used multiple times.

our coconut products

It’s safe to say the sky-high demand for coconut water and oil has meant an excess of coconut shells going to landfill to the tune of billions each year. What’s more, burning of coconut shells contributes to CO2 and methane emissions. By repurposing coconut shells into wonderfully carved bowls we are helping the environment.

Handcrafted in Indonesia our coconut bowls begin life as a humble shell. Once all flesh and husk remains are removed the shell is lovingly smoothed and polished before having a beautiful pattern carefully engraved on the outer surface. Perfect for your breakfast granola, smoothie bowl or lunchtime ramen, coconut bowls should be treasured. Once your bowl has reached the end of its use it can be composted.

our hay products

A brilliant affordable alternative to soggy paper straws and harmful plastic ones, hay straws are your sustainable sipping solution. 100% compostable and made from wheat by-product, they’re the future of zero waste products. Not to forget, they are fully gluten-free.

Our hay straw production is simple. Once the wheat has been harvested it’s cut and rinsed thoroughly until it’s sterile, resulting in a straw – quite literally – made of straw! We never use any chemicals during the process. Unlike bamboo straws that can be rinsed and reused, hay straws can be composted after a single use making them perfect for hospitality purposes too.

our reed products

The history of our reed straws is quite unusual. Our manufacturers provide fire safety services to national ecological reserves and fisheries in Ukraine. The thing is that the huge fields of dry reed in winter are no longer home to birds. Instead, these fields become potentially dangerous for both the ecosystem and the villages due to fires. The reed fields burn every year. We are helping with that. We have a fleet of vehicles that can easily move through wetlands without damaging the plant roots. The reed is then cut in segments so that if a fire occurs, it does not move to the entire field. So here we are, getting a huge amount of organic reed, not subject to any chemical treatments.

Washed in bubble baths, steam cleaned inside and outside at a temperature of 140 degrees, processed with ozone and dried under infrared rays - it remained as 100% biodegradable as nature itself intended with zero harmful chemicals.

In fact, this is a plant - which means the reed straw comes from nature and goes back to nature. Reed is 100% independently biodegradable if it has not been chemically processed.

By the way, we don’t throw reed leftovers out either. The leftover is turned into pellets to fuel the whole production. In this way, we have a completely closed-looped production cycle and minimum carbon footprint.
